The last fourteener

1916

On July 24, 1916, Albert Ellingwood and Eleanor Davis made the first recorded ascent of Crestone Needle, crossing over from Crestone Peak along the ridge between them. The Needle has long been called the last of Colorado's fourteeners to be climbed, though later research turned up reports of earlier climbs on nearby peaks. The pair came back in August 1925 and climbed a harder, more technical route up the Needle, now known as the Ellingwood Ledges.
