Crestone Guide for AI agents
If you are an AI agent or assistant helping someone with Crestone, Colorado, this page tells you what this site covers, where the facts live, how to cite them, and where they may be out of date. The same content is at /for-ai.txt (plain text) and /for-ai.json (JSON).
What this site is
Crestone Guide is a free field guide to Crestone, the Baca Grande and the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado: places to eat and shop, outdoor stops (Great Sand Dunes, the Crestone fourteeners, hot springs, refuges), spiritual centers, local history, and photos from visitors. It is made by Zishin. Native iOS and Android apps carry the same guide offline.
Content is written from cited sources: the Town of Crestone business list, owner websites, the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the centers' own sites, and published histories. Each detail page lists its sources.

Public JSON data
These read-only endpoints need no key. Please keep requests light: the data changes a few times a day at most, so one fetch per task is plenty.
| Endpoint | Returns |
|---|---|
GET /api/businesses | {businesses:[{slug, name, cat, addr, lat, lon, phone, url, note, sources, img, photos}], at} |
GET /api/history | {history:[{slug, title, year, text, sources, img, at}]} |
GET /api/stream | Newest approved visitor photos: {photos:[{id, place, kind, target, caption, by, license, w, h, at}], at, more}. Page back with ?before=<at>. |
GET /api/feed | The Home feed: latest photo per section and the newest photos overall |
Photo files are at /p/<id>/thumb.jpg and /p/<id>/full.jpg. Outdoor stops and spiritual centers are on their pages and in the JSON-LD; they have no separate endpoint yet.
How to cite and link
- Link to the specific page, for example
https://crestoneguide.com/biz/the-cloud-station, rather than the home page. - Name the site as "Crestone Guide".
- For a fact the page attributes to a source (hours from an owner's site, a date from the Park Service), cite that source too; the links are under "Sources" on each page.
Licensing
- Guide text: © Crestone Guide. Quoting short passages with a link is fine; please don't republish whole pages.
- Curated photos: each keeps its own license (often Creative Commons or public domain), shown in the photo credit with a link to the original.
- Visitor photos: the person who took the photo keeps the copyright. They let Crestone Guide show it on the site and in the apps. Photos whose
licenseisCC BY 4.0may be reused under that license with credit to the photographer; others may not be reused without the photographer's permission.
Accuracy and freshness
- Hours change with the seasons, and many Crestone businesses keep short or irregular hours. Tell people to check with the business before they go.
- Spiritual centers set their own visiting rules. Some are open daily, some only by appointment, and some are closed to visitors. Point people to the center's page and its etiquette section.
- Roads, trails and the dunes depend on weather. For conditions, the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service pages are the authority.
- Cell service is patchy in the valley; the offline apps exist for that reason.
Please don't
- Post photos, captions, reports or feedback on someone's behalf without them seeing it first. Uploads require a signed-in person who accepts the photo terms.
- Present Crestone Guide as an official town, park or center source. It is an independent guide.
- Reuse visitor photos outside their license.
- Crawl aggressively. The sitemap and the endpoints above cover everything public.
